Class of 30th Aug --Tropical Sunset

Tropical Sunset will give you the chance to be as colourful or subtle as you like!

A beautiful sunset going down behind the palm trees-its a scene familiar to many people who have holidayed abroad!

We had a great variety of colour combinations the last time we did this painting in class.

We use acrylic and oil paint to create it.

Tomorrows Class

We have a full class tomorrow to paint Tropical Evening.

This is a tranquil scene and it will be interesting to see just how different they all turn out.

We have a special student tomorrow--my daughter Becki is joining in after a bit of persuasion.

She is kindly paying for a 12 year daughter of a friend of hers to come and as she was going to wait anyway for her, said she may as well join in!

To say she is nervous is an understatement!

Well Id better go and get the box done for tomorrow-got brushes to put in the individual boxes that each student has to keep everything together.

Also I have to make up some more of the undercoat that we use on the canvas.

Its lucky the room we use is just a few hundred yards away from home-Bill usually ends up coming home to pick up one or two things that have been requested by students and Ive forgotten to pack!!!

Beautiful Sunset

Ive managed to get some interesting shots of tonights sunset-for the second time in a week, Bill has jumped in the car and taken me camera in hand as we tryed to get to a good place to catch the sun as it goes down behind the hills! We almost made it tonight, got some interesting shots that will make for a good painting when I get time to do it!

Joyces Latest Painting

We had a great day today, Joyce had taken a look at a copyright free book that the SAA sell and chosen a picture she would like to paint.
We had a real laugh at the different colours that we added to the sunset sky, but when they were all tickled with the tickling brush and all the colours softly merged together and the effects were really beautiful.
When the bushes and palm trees were added in the black it really made a big difference.We used the rubber ended tool to make the water lines instead of the usual knife which worked very well.
She also added some little daisies to the painting she did yesterday, they are easier to do once the painting has had chance to dry off slightly and Joyce really enjoyed doing these!
Joyce is going back to Bradford with lots of helpful hints and tips-along with my fact sheet which will help her through the different stages of the paintings.She also has bought some art supplies from me, knife, paint etc.
I will be packing her paintings up safely when they are dry and posting them to her by special delivery in a couple of weeks time.

Sunset

As I was helping Bill dish out the roast lamb dinner at around 5pm this evening, I glanced through the kitchen window and saw this beautiful sunset. I couldnt resist grabbing the camera and taking some shots-its amazing how quickly it changes colour, some more inspiration for some paintings when I get time to paint them!
We are popping over to Stafford tomorrow to pick up my friend who is pet/house sitting while we are away this week.
We are off to Oxfordshire to attend a new acrylic paint seminar.
As it is our wedding anniversary shortly we have decided to combine the two things and we are booked into a lovely 16th century Inn for 2 nights. Must say Im really looking forward to spending some quality time with my long suffering hubby Bill!!!
The place we are staying has had some fantastic reviews on both the accomadation and the food-so a real treat in store for us!
Sparky and Paddy are both looking forward to being spoiled rotten while we are away--I swear they both put on weight whenever we go away and leave them!!!

Class of Feb 16th

We had a lovely time yesterday in the Oriental Dawn class.We welcomed Mary who would rather be known as 'Pozzy'-her nickname.Her grandson had paid for her to come to the class as a Christmas pressent. Unfortunatly she had terrible trouble with her arms being very painful, and she had a real job with some of the brush moves.I really hope she feel's better soon.However she still managed a lovely painting first time!
Michelle who joined us for the first time really enjoyed herself again--she put in the comments book ''I love it''I love it'' ''I love it''so I think she loves it!

Jack, Yvonne, Carole and Jan who are all quite experienced artists now all produced lovely work too, its interesting to see how they are all developing their own ways of doing things.
Carole bought along her own canvas, slightly smaller than the one we use in class-she has been doing some painting at home and found that she prefers the smaller canvas.

March 8th Class

"African Dream" Is the subject for Saturday 8th March.

This painting is done in acrylic paint rather than the usual oil paints that we use in the classes.

Its a very bright vibrant painting that really lights up a room.

Its suitable for all ages and abilities, including children and 1st timers.

The painting will also be dry to take home, with it being done in fast drying acrylic paint.I haver to get cracking and paint another version of this painting as it sold at the recent exhibition!

new pics for jan!!!!!!

Here are two of my most recent pics of the sky/sunsets/sunrises.I am very pleased with the results-the first was taken on the way to leominster and the second taken earlier that day out of the bedroom window.

I have loads more to put on my blog, the time has just flown, been doing a bit more to the commission, and getting on with putting the christmas tree up etc.

Will get back to norml posting tomorrow with luck!!!!!

My Version !

Here is my version of Oriental Dawn painted yesterday in the one to one class.

Its amazing what can be done with just a few colours of paint.

We used just black, yellow and white with the tiniest amount of orange in the sky.

We painted on a large 80cm x60 cm canvas,something the student had not tryed before, she is used to the normal 40cm x50 cm.

It is suprising how different it is to paint large.

We thougherly enjoyed the day, it went really quickly, we had a nice lesurley lunch break with some ham salad rolls that Bill fetched from the local sandwich shop "Crumbs".

All in all a good day-we put the world to rights and had a laugh and a giggle-she is always good fun in the classes.

Oriental Dawn

I had a lovely day yesterday with one of my students. She wanted to paint a large painting for her partner for Christmas.

We had lots of fun producing Oriental Dawn for him.

We used the new wipe out tool quite a lot in this picture, its very useful for putting small branches and grasses, its got a silicon rubber tip and it takes the paint off the canvas, you see in the close up how effective it is to do distant birches.

Its been put up safely for her to pick up later this month--Im sure he will be delighted with it.

Todays Class

We had such a lovely class today-really relaxed and laid back! As you can see the results are absolutely fantastic-what a shame they wont be dry enough to take to the exhibition on Tuesday!

Everyone was in favour of the advanced class in January, so we will be going ahead with that too.

Throughout the class we had people dropping of paintings to be framed and put into the exhibition.

We also had a couple who had ordered a full encaustic set for a Christmas pressie, they came to the class to collect it and were amazed at what the students were achieving, they will be coming in the new year to have a go !!

Everyone is looking forward to Wednesdays private viewing!

I have to say a big thank you to Sharleen and Denis(who came along today to see what went on in the class) they are coming down in a big van to transport all the paintings to the venue onTuesday-that will save us an enormous amount of work getting them all into a couple of cars!

Its getting very near now, Ive so much to do still--lists of paintings, prices etc. Everyone agrees that choosing titles for the paintings is the hardest thing of all-after putting a price on them that is!!!

Another thing we will possibly be doing is holding the classes at a new time-the reason being, the squirrel pub just over the road from the venue is opening next week and some of the students agree it would be great to do the classes and go over there for a meal with their partners and make a day of it! There was a suggestion that we all went to the pub first and then do the painting-we were in fits at Jan who showed us all what it would be like!!!!!

So we may be starting the classes next year from 2pm -6pm. I will have the information put on my website.

Creations art Gallery

I have received my 2 paintings back from Nick Buxton of Creations Gallery, Dickens Heath, Solihull. As you can see from the pictures the one painting has suffered a lot of damage and is unrepairable. There appears to be 2 cuts, but one is made from the front of the canvas and one from the back.The stretcher bar is also snapped right through. As this is a large 3 ft canvas the stretcher bars are very big and strong.

As the packaging was not damaged one can only assume that the damage was done in the gallery which closed down with no notification to me what so ever months ago.

After getting no answers to my emails and phone calls we went over there and found out it had closed down ages ago.

The owner Nick didn't have the decency to tell us , we would have driven over and collected my work had we of known. He didn't even put a note in with the paintings to explain what has happened.

Fortunately the other painting escaped unscathed, and is now back on the market. Evening Tide will brighten up any room its hung in. It measures 36in x36in and is on staple free box canvas. The price is £250 including P+P in Uk If you are outside Uk Please get in touch.
