Sue and Richards Workshop

After having 6 months rest I decided I would try a small workshop at home.. I had my perching stool to sit on  and lowered my easel to try and help my arms.. Extra steroids, Tramadol and a liberal coating of Volterol on arms and legs and I thought I was well prepared for it..!   Sue had never painted before and hubby Richard had painted with me once a few years ago..

Although Sue insisted she wasn't in the slightest 'artistic' she followed my instructions and soon had a lovely painting.. Richard had used acrylic last time so this was completely different for him.He too soon had a lovely painting on his easel.. The time went very quickly...but I soon realised that I wasn't yet well enough to teach.

Well done both of you! Lovely results!   It was lovely to be teaching again ,but there is no way I can carry on teaching this year anyway..           I was in agony   afterwards and could hardly move the next day--even with taking extra tablets. The specialist has tried me on Amitriptyline and now Pregabalin, neither of them have done much at all, except knock me out cold which is not good..so I am now looking at going back to teaching perhaps next year-- fingers crossed... In the mean time I will continue to put my work on my websites, and I will be starting some new works soon-- completely different to what I have been doing but will be easier on my arms,, watch this space..

Paintings Sold

I was pleased to sell two of the paintings entered into the Ludlow Art Society exhibition over the past week...I painted both especialy for it...Squirrels Eye View has proved to be a popular subject and Ive sold quite a few versions of it over the past few years..

Stormy Poppies was also done for the exhibition and I have been asked to make it a workshop subject too..So I will be setting a date soon for it... As only 16 paintings sold from the whole exhibition I was quite chuffed to sell two of them! Now to set to work on some new work for Church Stretton Arts Festival..

Reeds In Breeze Workshop

Joy was with us for the 4th  time...she bought along her friend Margaret ..

Margaret seemed to find it pretty easy-and no signs of nerves!

Sue was painting for the first time-she came along with her friend Viv who has been 3 times before--

I love the brown and ochre shades,,,a really natural look!

We had a real family affair here--Elaine bought along her 2 daughters and her granddaughter to paint..Elaine had been just once before--

daughter Jessica was painting for the 1st time-though you would never know it to see her painting..

12 year old Amy made a beautiful job of her painting..

And WOW--Rachel's grey version was just stunning... 2 nd time painting--I think everyone was chuffed to bits with their pictures..we had amazing results from them all...

Todays Class-Stormy Skies

Well the first day back doing the classes in 2010.
We had a few less than expected turn up--the snow stopped Sue-who had to catch up with work as she had been unable to get into work because of the snow!
Val missed the bus and she lives out in the sticks so couldn't get here,
Cath got in a muddle with the trains and phone numbers and Sybila had to go into hospital and her partner John didn't want to come without her!
So that left us with 8 students!
Jan has been quite a few times before
and doesn't seem to get any nerves now-we had Linda come for the first time-her hubby Patrick came to me last October for the first time and made such a stunning painting of Forest Pool that he treated Linda to a gift voucher for her birthday!
All the others, Vikki (Jans daughter) Sam, Gemma ,Lin, Elaine and Gary were all with me for the second time!
We had great fun as usual-everyone got stuck in very quickly with their skies--Elaine chose to do hers in Van Dyke brown so it would be different to Garys--and it worked really well too.
Everyone was amazed by how different they all turned out at each stage--all completly different-but all very stormy!
We had a bit of cussing going on under the breath when it came to using the knife to do the waves!! There is a definate technique with it and until you get the pressure in the right place its hard to get the correct result! Linda seemed to pick it up right away -no problems but some of the others found it a bit harder to start with but all got there in the end!

We took along some of the chocolates and mince pies left over from Christmas as well as the usual biscuits -hoping the students would help eat them-Sam loved the maltesers and Bill helped her find all of those out of the tin-and quite a few of the others went as well during the day, I think after a few classes we will have used them all up!

Elaine and Gary were telling me how they had been painting at home-they have been and bought easels, oils and acrylics and have painted lots of different versions of Mystical Moon-including a daytime one which sounded great!
We will see them again for Winter Wonderland on Feb 13th and Mellow Moods on March 27th
We will see Jan, Vicki and Lin for the new painting subject "Grasses" on Feb 20th
Gemma and Sam are coming to the Birches on May 15th.

Stormy Skies Jan 16th

I have already got 10 booked in for this class but can fit in 2 more.
Its proved to be a popular subject over the past few years and has a choice of colours in the class.

This has proved to be a very interesting subject in the past.

We use just black and white oil paint in this painting-its very interesting to see just how different pressures on the brush produce such different effects. There are many shades of grey through to black in this picture-all produced with ease with just brush strokes!

Holiday Memories

The latest in my ''Summer Day'' series of paintings. This one is painted onto a Windsor and Newton deep edge box canvas.The sides have been painted. Painted in oil, the colours are fresh and vibrant. The waves lapping onto the beach are created using a palette knife which leaves the paint standing out from the canvas giving a very pleasing effect. The palm tree is gently blowing in the sea breeze. It maybe reminds you of holidays taken somewhere tropical.

This painting has been painted onto Windsor and Newton deep edge box canvas.The sides have been painted and it does not require framing.

Tropical Storm

Here is my latest work-Tropical Storm. The colour on the close up photo is closer to the true colour of the painting.

Painted in oil on box canvas , its a very atmospheric painting.The stormy skies in the background show a storm is coming.The palm tree fronds are starting to wave around in the wind and the waves are lapping up the beach.

Joyces Latest Painting

We had a great day today, Joyce had taken a look at a copyright free book that the SAA sell and chosen a picture she would like to paint.
We had a real laugh at the different colours that we added to the sunset sky, but when they were all tickled with the tickling brush and all the colours softly merged together and the effects were really beautiful.
When the bushes and palm trees were added in the black it really made a big difference.We used the rubber ended tool to make the water lines instead of the usual knife which worked very well.
She also added some little daisies to the painting she did yesterday, they are easier to do once the painting has had chance to dry off slightly and Joyce really enjoyed doing these!
Joyce is going back to Bradford with lots of helpful hints and tips-along with my fact sheet which will help her through the different stages of the paintings.She also has bought some art supplies from me, knife, paint etc.
I will be packing her paintings up safely when they are dry and posting them to her by special delivery in a couple of weeks time.

Longest Summer Day

Ive had a very enjoyable day creating my latest work."Longest Summer Day" has been so called for obvious reasons-the canvas is a massive 5ft tall and just 1 ft wide.
Its been very interesting painting on a canvas this size, though it must be said its a little awkward to avoid getting paint everywhere-including on the kitchen ceiling!
Its now hanging in the bathroom drying.The sides are all painted and staple free so it does not require framing.
