Busy Times Ahead!

I have a busy week ahead of me again. Ive got a workshop on Saturday painting Sunshine After The rain--a new subject for this year--Im really looking forward to it.
It seems ages since I did a black canvas class!
Then on Sunday we are back on the market up town--this time its a Halloween market-though we havent been told to dress up or anything-should be busy if the weather is something like as the kids are still on half term.

Then we are back up there again on Wednesday Nov 3rd for our usual market and again the next day Nov 4th for the craft market.Shame we cant just wrap the stall up on Wednesday after we finish and unwrap it on Thursday!
It take 2 hours to set the stall up with the stands, tables,,paintings cards etc -much quicker taking it all down--just over 30 mins!

To a Phenomenal Woman

I found this on one of the forums I look at--



When I was in my younger days,
I weighed a few pounds less,
I needn't hold my tummy in
to wear a belted dress.
But now that I am older,
I've set my body free;
There's comfort of elastic
Where once my waist would be.
Inventor of those high-heeled shoes
My feet have not forgiven;
I have to wear a nine now,
But used to wear a seven.

And how about those blasted tights --
They're sized by weight, you see,
So how come when I put them on
The crotch is at my knee?
I need to wear these glasses
As the print's been getting smaller;
And it wasn't very long ago
I know that I was taller.
Though my hair has turned to grey
and my skin no longer fits,
On the inside, I'm the same old me,
the outside's changed a bit.


But, on a positive note...
I've learned that no matter what happens,
or how bad it seems today,
life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.
I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things:
a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents,
you'll miss them when they're gone from your life.

I've learned that making a "living" is
not the same thing as making a "life."
I've learned that life sometimes
gives you a second chance.
I've learned that you shouldn't go through life
just being a doormat.
You need to be able to throw something back.
I've learned that whenever I decide something
with an open heart,
I usually make the right decision.
I've learned that even when I have pains,
I don't have to be one.

I've learned that every day you should reach out
and touch someone.
People love a warm hug,
or just a friendly pat on the back.
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.
I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did,
but people will never forget how you made them feel.

Busy Times!


We are starting back on the regular Wednesday market tomorrow. We have got everything ready for an early start. We have done a couple of Sunday ones which were quite busy , but are not expecting to be rushed off our feet on the Wednesday one just yet!
There may be some visitors still around though-you never know what the day will bring!
We will be packing up a bit earlier than usual because I have a demo to do tomorrow night in Telford for a ladies club. Its one of the biggest so far with 100 members--I'm sure it wont be much different to doing one in front of 30 !
I have spent an hour getting my bags ready--its surprising how many bags we get through with sales of cards etc when we do these events!
Ive also got my photograph album up to date with all the students photos--people love to see just what is achieved in the classes and it gives them the encouragement to join up for a class themselves when they can actualy see the the paintings done in class.
Ive got a full class on saturday and we are on the market again on Sunday, so a busy week for us.

Market 15th July




















The weather didn't look promising yesterday as we set off to the market-however it stayed dry for us to set up and we only had a few short showers during the day.
It was busy all day and we met people from all over the country who want to come and paint!
I started a new painting while I was there-the beautiful sunshine we had inspired me to paint some sunflowers! I bought some as a reference from the local supermarket.!
My ''managers'' Pauline and Chris called by to have a chat and do their ususal promotion of my classes, and we got talking about the encaustic wax painting.
I cant belive that all the time they have been by the stall talking that they have never seen it done!
Anyway yesterday they had a quick demo of it and they were hooked!
They took away a complete set and Im waiting to see the results---they will have lots of fun with it!
I was well chuffed with my new cards and the new stand-they do sell really well-cant wait for Lin to come and take photos of some more of my paintings now!

Yesterdays Craft Market

Well the weather was beautiful all day and it was heaving with people all day as it was the secret gardens event in town.
We met some lovely people as usual, and look forward to meeting them in the future in class!

Jacks Painting!

We were all painting away happily today when Jack started laughing and said ''look at this'' the sun had started shining and had come through the window nearby to Jack and was shining on his painting-it looked like he had painted the sun breaking through his clouds and across his sea!
Must say a big thanks to Jack for the lovely big Easter egg he bought for me-will share it with Bill though!

Yesterdays Craft Fair


















We had a wonderful time yesterday at the craft fair. The weather was very kind to us-much better than forecast-loads of people about for a change!
We had a bit of excitement in the morning when a horse drawn carriage overturned and the horse bolted, being caught and stopped only a few yards away from the market stalls-good job it was early in the day and not many people about-it could have been nasty. The horse hit a transit van and caused a bit of damage, but fortunately the horse was unhurt except for a few cuts.
I was painting all day, working on a couple of paintings that I wanted to finish-one is being given to charity, I will post the details up here shortly. The other big piece was a large triptych of my birch trees. People were very interested to see what I was doing, and quite a few want to join a class.
I sold my monochrome birch tree triptych to a lovely couple who had come from Banbury.
The lady spotted the wax foxgloves that I had added on another of the series and really liked it so I added some while she watched, just for her on the first canvas of the set she had bought. She explained that her living room was black and white and they would fit in beautifully.
All in all a great day, I finished off the brown triptych today at home, thats waiting to be varnished now.
To top the day my stepson Carl and his lady took us out for a beautiful meal at The Boot last night.
A great ending to a great day-thanks both!

Last Craft Fair of 2008
























Well the weather was kind to us yesterday on the last craft fair of the year. It was cold but not too much so!
Its funny how we dont get it set up the same way twice!
Looking forward to the break now. Probley wont do any more until March,so the paintings can be packed away tidily until then!

Class of Jan 10th --Snow Drifts


A new class subject-Snow Drifts is painted in oil paints and although its a snowy scene-it has a lovely warm glow to it with a bright sunset sky.

This painting is suitable for all ages and abilities

Droitwich Art Society

















We had a lovely evening last night at Droitwich Art Society.There was a good crowd at the hall which had fantastic lighting for me to paint by!
As usual with the art societies there were lots of interesting questions all night and almost everyone was taking notes.
I expect to see some of them in the future in classes and several of them were interested in having me to do demos at various other groups.
I only managed to get a photograph of Keith with his painting of Summer Day he won in the raffle, I was kept so busy afterwards answering questions, the winner of the other painting Winter Wonderland had gone home before me getting a photo of the painting or the winner herself!

I have got to find time to look up my dates for next year--Wellsbourne Art Society have asked me to return for the 3rd time in March next year!
The members who attended the Birch Tree class earlier this year have taken their paintings along to the meeting and everyone was well impressed with them!
As usual we will make a few days of it as we really love the area-maybe we will incorporate it into our wedding anniversary/my birthday and stay in the lovely posh hotel we came across last time we were there!

Bishops Castle Michaelmas Fair



































We have had a lovely day today,first of all we went to Leominster Boot sale-we haven't been for weeks because of doing various craft fairs and also the weather. It was lovely to wander around and pick up some bargains-like a new cd system which sounds just brilliant and has been set up in the kitchen!I also bought some lovely jewelry for myself! As if I need any more!
I did also buy a lovely stand to hang necklaces and earrings off as well, so will be able to keep the new stuff tidy!
Then we went off to Bishops Castle Michaelmas Fair-we have never been there before and what a great event it was.
Bill was in his element-loads of steam engines, tractors and lorries on display.
All of the streets were buzzing with people and stalls.There was loads to see.
The morris dancers were very entertaining-how they kept it up with the dancing with it being so hot I don't know--but the funny thing is neither of us noticed the spotted house in the background when we watched them! Its only now when I was putting the photos on the computer that I 'spotted it!'
We went into the craft tent and got talking to one of the exhibitors who makes soaps of all description's from goats milk.We bought some coffee soap which removes smells from your hands-handy when Ive been cleaning brushes and some nettle soap which is great for dry skin.
She gave us all the imformation for next year and hopefully we will be doing the fair ourselves.
It had a lovely atmosphere and we really enjoyed ourselves there.Its not many miles from home , cant understand why we havent been to it before!

Food And Drink Craft Fair























































We met some lovely people at the weekend while doing the craft fair!
Here are some of the people who had a go at the encaustic art-from the top-I hope Ive got the names right!! Sue ,Andy-parents of Alfie, (Stans photo didnt come out sorry!) and Minnie,
Lauren, Cortney, Amy,Laura ,Paige,Savhanna and finaly Hannah .
I was too tired last night to get the pics on here-by the time we unloaded the car and sat down it was late!
Sue and Andy and the children really enjoyed having a go and bought the complete set to carry on at home.Stans photo was very blurred so I couldnt upload it!
I know they will all have a lot of fun with it at home.

Caroles Class




Carole came for a one to one yesterday-she wanted to learn how to be loosen up in her painting technique.
Carole has always liked to have a photo in front of her when painting at home to work from, and said she couldn't use her imagination to paint anything.
I just put out some acrylic colours on a plate and we just got on and played with the paint.
It took her a while to 'free up'' but when she did , she produced a beautiful abstract painting-shown above in its stages..
Its bright and vibrant, and Carole was really pleased with the effect--we moved into the garage to do some splattering effects-which was great fun!
When we were finished I put the pan on and we all had some bacon sandwiches and a cuppa!
Carole's friend John who had bought her here had a great time with Jake the parrot while we were painting.
They are going to the private viewing on Saturday at the Ludlow Art Society Exhibition, John has just started up framing paintings so Im sure he will pick up a few customers there!

Craft market

We have been on the Book And Craft fair today on the Castle Square in Ludlow-the weather was a real mixture-pouring down one minute and sun burning bright the next.

It was unusually busy for a change, despite the weather! I didn't even get chance to take any photos, as Bill pointed out as we were packing up at 5pm!

It was a constant stream of people most of the day. Jill a lady Ive been talking to on the Internet for a while came by, she wanted to try out the encaustic art and had ordered the complete set off me.
I gave her a demo of how to do it, and then she had a go, so I could be sure that she knew exactly how much pressure to apply to the iron. She did a lovely pink and purple pic in just a few seconds!
She is a really keen artist and I had to send Bill home to collect some black and white blank canvas as I had forgotten she had told me she wanted some!
Good job we are only 1 mile away!
I managed to get 2 paintings done--2 class subjects that I wanted to get done on the size canvas we use in class.
At the moment they are on much bigger canvas and it was confusing people when I said they were class subjects-the size put them off!!

Anyway I managed to finish them, in between all the chatting and demonstrating, I hope they dry before the weekend so I can take them to the Tern Valley Vintage show .

Craft Fair


We had a great day today on the craft fair-the weather was gorgeous and there were loads of people around. It was a very busy day!
I spent some of the time creating some new paintings-in between showing people how the encaustic art is done!
I have got to order some more encaustic irons because I only have a couple left and I know from previous experience that they will fly like hot cakes when we do the next few craft fairs.
We had to rearange the stall a couple of times as the sun moved round--the waxes were starting to melt-so everything had to move into the shade!

Craft Fair








Well the wet weather held off until mid morning, then we had a couple of quick showers, but in between it was a lovely warm day.The town wasn't very busy though considering the Ludlow Festival was on. The weather forcast had put people off I expect!

I have some bookings for demonstrations and some bookings for later in the year for classes.

I could have sold loads of encaustic stuff if it had arrived from my supplier---sods law I suppose but everyone who wanted a set is relatively local so will call by when we are up on the ''book and craft ''market on the Sunday 13th July. I will have to post one set to some visitors from Yorkshire as soon as it arrives.

Bella's Christening






We had a lovely afternoon today--my daughter Becki was Godmother to this beautiful little baby(BELLA) whose mum is Becki's best friend Shell.
Bella has been named Bella Rebecca after my Becki which is lovely!
Bills son and his wife Hayley were also there along with this other little chap-our grandson Callum.
As you can see Callum got stuck into the chocolate cakes and made a right mess!
Now Im off to do the finishing touches to the 2 paintings that have been commissioned!
