Kirsty checking where her daisies and cornflowers are to go...she bought along her mum Andrea - both really enjoyed the workshop and found the step by step instruction easy to follow!

Andrea adding some detail...
Liz painted some lovely bold poppies...

Chris's painting started off quite delicate, but she got her impact with her poppies!

Margaret adding the final details to her painting!

fantastic results ladies!

Saturdays Workshop..

Due to cancellations due to illness there was only Helen and Bob yesterday-and instead of doing the advertised abstract workshop I gave them free rein to do whatever they wanted..they chose The Big Poppy' which is done in acrylic and melted wax..They had travelled from Northampton and stayed overnight at http://www.bushfarmbandb.co.uk/ which is run by one of our friends/students Christina..
They chose to do 2 different colours with Helen using the more traditional reds and Bob the lovely 'bordaux ' purple.Helen made a beautiful job of her picture -with lots of texture in the centre..

Bob is adding the melted wax to the centre of his painting--although we started out painting a poppy picture we quickly realised that Bobs looked quite a like an anemone -it was quite stunning! Decisons had to be made on whether to add any silver wax to the centre-or to leave it black..in the end silver was added and it did work well.
Lovely results--the photos do not do the paintings justice--it is the hardest painting to photograph-and you cant see the texture that was created! We will look forward to seeing Bob and Helen again in the future!

Julie's One 2 One

Julie was using oils for the first time..only the second time she had painted too.She used acrylics last time in the birches workshop.

she got the hang of the brushes and the quite different feel of the paint right away..

We had a lovely day-and put the world to rights several times over!

Julie went back to her sky and did some tiny adjustments which made a world of difference. Its lovely to see people start to make decisions about their paintings so quickly during a workshop....

Sorry Julie-managed to get you when you blinked! Beautiful painting-well done!

Art From The Heart Exhibition

My next solo exhibition " Art From The Heart" will be opening on Friday 2nd Nov so I have been really busy getting the paintings ready to show there. There are 9 panels to hang the paintings in so the easiest way of working out what paintings went where was to move the van off the drive and get the tape measures out and mark out the area for each panel!
Ive got a good mix of old and new paintings to show there, oils, acrylics and encaustic wax...
It made life easier to lay them out and get an idea where the paintings would be hung..
then it was time for a close inspection and to touch up any bits of paint that needed it....then they were varnished so they will be dry in plenty of time for Thursday afternoon when we take them to hang..

I'm really pleased with how the new 2ft square poppy paintings look now they have been varnished..
I love the teal colour

Bill had a few paintings to string/varnish etc and Paddy couldn't resist flying from the front room to the kitchen to inspect what he was doing!

Longdon On Tern Demo

I was invited to Longdon On Tern Village Hall to do a demo for the local people on Friday evening. What a beautiful sunset we had on the way there....stunning!

It was a busy evening with a good turn out of people off all ages! I painted The Waterfall first of all on a black canvas before we had a break--there was a beautiful spread of food put on--and the Slimming World diet took a back seat as we tucked into all sorts of goodies and as I wasn't driving I was able to have a couple of glasses of wine---while Bill had an orange juice! We got chatting to a chap who introduced himself as having lived in Ludlow many years ago--turns out he knew Bills brother Derek , my uncle Barry  and his mothers name was Sankey-which was my maiden name so I will be looking to see if we are related along the way!Its certainly a small world!  After the break I got on and painted my signature painting "Summer Day" Everyone was taken  back by how quickly the paintings were done and the amount of detail that can be done so easily, lots of questions were asked about how I do it ...and lots of interest in having a workshop...it was a great evening-if a bit of a  late one--it was turned 11pm when we got back to Ludlow--and we had an early start the next morning for the Big Red Poppy workshop!  We are off to do another demo tomorrow for the over 60,s Club at Radbrook Green Nr Shrewsbury -this time in the afternoon so should be back in daylight!

Jessie and Graham won the paintings in the raffle..

"Yesterday" Workshop July 14th

I was  expecting some phone calls this morning to say people wouldn't be able to make it to the workshop today because of the floods all around Shropshire/Ludlow area. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that everyone made it---with detours and some very deep water to come through--thank you everyone! Rachel and her parents David and Elaine were painting for the first time--Rachel chose to do the brown shades-and she did think it was a bit dark but once the water went in and some metallic shimmer added it made it lighter..turned out very atmospheric!
Elaine was just a bit nervous when she came in this morning...completely normal when trying something new---especially a canvas the size of this one! Its a big one to do first time!
jenny has been quite a few times now and she chose the blues/purples version..she made a great job of her blending, you feel you could step into the water.
We met Barry recently at Shobdon Food And Drink Festival, though he was familiar with my website..he travelled a long way to be with us..and met with floods just outside Ludlow...he created a lovely dramatic painting..
Ive manged to cut Jenny out of the photo--sorry Jenny! What beautiful colours  Jenny used...love the cerise pink.Jenny's paintings always take on a fantasy feel and today was no exception! The holographic stars and flowers at the end worked a treat but didn't show up on the photos..
Derek travelled a long way to be with us again---and I'm pretty sure he should have received his artist badge today---never mind he can have it in 2 weeks when he comes to do the Birches workshop..Derek has Parkinson's  bless him and he does well to stand as long as he does to paint, sitting just for the last bit...he did a cracking picture--his tree added at the end had loads of character----
Shane was painting with me for the first time..he chose the bright bold oranges and reds and made a lovely job of his blending after being shown  as simple trick ;-)   he had to come over Clee Hill as well where the floods were really bad. Shane was going to have a go at the painting again tomorrow so he took home the palette of paint he had left over, as did several of the others--I l always put ample paint in the palettes so there is always some left at the end of class--I would much rather students took it home with them than to throw it away....a bit of clingfilm over the top after a spray of water and it will keep til tomorrow easily...
David was pretty convinced  he wouldn't be able to paint a picture--he surprised himself and achieved a brilliant painting ...we were all creased with laughter all day--the banter was just bouncing off  everyone all day--it really was a fun class!   When the paintings are varnished it will bring out the colours beautifully and protect them too,,,,I had sold out of varnish last week and forgot to order some more so David and family were calling at the Range for some on the way home..I must remember to order some this week...
Derek had to leave before the final photos were taken--I'm looking forward to seeing him again in 2 weeks for the Birches workshop..
Well Done everyone--cracking pictures!
all the paintings turn out as individual as the people who paint them are.
Looking forward to seeing you all again!
