Different paintings!

I had decided the classes for Jan 10th and Feb 28th and listed them, then while sorting out the back room where i keep my stock of paintings i realised that I hadn't actually still got these class subjects--they had sold long ago ! So I spent some of my time during the craft fair re-painting them!

The Top painting "Forest dawn" is the class subject for Feb 28th 2009

and the painting below is called "Snow Drifts " and is the subject for the 10th Jan 2009.

Both are suitable for first time artists or more experienced ones.

You will learn to use a variety of different brushes and techniques in both these paintings.

if you are interested in joining any of these classes please get in touch with me via the website

Poppy Quartet

I managed to finish the Poppy Quartet painting that I have been working on all week.
I decided against using the gold coloured dust to finish it off, after trying out the new silver wax on the centre.
The colours dont show up at all well on the finished painting, but as usual it looks better in real life than on the computer-had loads of compliments off people all day.

Medieval Fair in Ludlow

We were up early to go down and finish setting up this morning at the college for the Medieval fair, we had done most of it last night, but there were one or two things that needed doing today.
Here we have Joseph and Mateusz having a go at the encaustic art.
Joseph made a beautiful painting with a dog in it!
We sold out pretty well of the encaustic art materials, have got just 2 complete sets left and a few waxes and cards.
We saw some of our students , Chris and Pauline who called by with some of their friends. We had all met for the first time last year at the same craft fair, when Chris and Pauline had decided to join us to start learning to paint, the friends had come back to visit them and were gobsmacked at their results!

Latest Poppy Quartet

Ive been busy working on my latest Poppy Quartet painting this week. you can see the different stages that it goes through as it develops.
It gets tricky balancing 4 canvas on my easel at times!
I have done the base coats in various shades of red, then today I added the texturizing medium with a knife-allowed to dry and painted over that with some thin glazes of acrylic paint, it does not show up well in the photos but this version has more texture in it than any of my previous ones.
This is as far as Ive got-the layers of paint have been built up over the past few days.
Tomorrow it will have another 10 or 12 thin glazes of acrylic , then the raised textured areas will have a special gold dust brushed on to give a beautiful shimmer that will catch the light when viewed at different angles, the next stage will be the melted wax centre. That is a quite difficult stage to do-quite tedious but well worth the effort-then on Friday it will have 3 coats of varnish to protect it and it will be ready in time for the Ludlow Medieval fair at the weekend!-At least thats the plan!

Ludlows Medieval Fair

This weekend will be one of our busiest craft fairs.
Its the famous Ludlow Medieval fair and people from all over the world will descend upon the town-including a steam train full of people from London.

We will be in the college on castle Square as usual.
I will have around 70 paintings on display with all price ranges from £6 up to £300.
I will also have a large range of art materials for sale--the full range of encaustic materials-irons, stylus, waxes and card.

Also Oil paints, canvas brushes and knives.

There will be cards and bookmarks to buy and also the chance to have a go at encaustic art yourselves--which is always very popular!

It will be lovely to meet everyone-we always get lots of students, family and friends calling by as well as all the new people we get to meet-we cant wait!

Results

Well Ive had the results from my recent scan and coloscopy tests and there is nothing too much to worry about that some lifestyle changes wont put right!

Ive still got to go and have an endoscopy on Dec 3rd but Im not too worried about that!
That means that things are getting back to normal in the household-whatever normal might be here!

New Bedroom!

We had a trip to Ikea in Wednesbury yesterday to choose some new bedroom furniture.I was like a kid in a sweet shop!
We ended up with a bit more than we intended -two 3 door wardrobes, 7 drawer,6 drawer and 5 drawer chests in solid antique pine , 2 mirrors as well as some more bits and bobs.
Bills busy putting it all together at the moment.

Now if only I could wave a magic wand and find everything was in place and all the clothes sorted out!
I made a start last night-managed to get 6 drawers down to 2 drawers.Got bags for charity shops, bags for ebay and bags for rags-just got 4 wardrobes and another 2 chests to sort now!

More Tests

I have to go back to Hereford hospital tomorrow to have a colonoscopy, Im hoping to have the results quickly and will let you all know whats happening.

I have 12 paintings hanging in a new gallery in Ludlow.
'Altogether Unique'19 Bull Ring, Ludlow sells contemporary paintings and hand made gifts to suit all tastes.

Going to Geneva!

Another painting is on its way to Geneva on Monday!

The lady wanted to buy a version of The Birch Tree's painting that was on the www.affordablebritishart.co.uk website. Unfortunately I found that it was the painting I had donated to the British Heart Foundation for their charity auction! I had forgotten to update the website!
However I had this version of it at home and she was happy to have that one.
It will be well packaged for its journey-and should be with Elena midweek or so.

Affordable British Art is a fantastic website--run by my dear friend Ros.
It has gone from strength to strength since she started up and she has some brilliant artists on there-including one of my students Sharleen!

Updates of things and Classes for 2009 !!!

At last I have found time to start to update next years classes, as you will see I have made a start and got as far as March.
I have listed them all below, there are a few new ones in among them with some more new ones to follow.

I have got lots of painting to catch up on--a new gallery opening up in Ludlow this weekend wants a lot of my most popular paintings-which means I will have to do some more in time for the Medieval Fair at the end of the month in town.It also means that I have a lot of websites to update as I will no longer be able to sell them off my sites!
We are also going to discuss having some workshops in the gallery as well--I will post some photos at the weekend.

Things have been hectic with 3 trips to Hereford hospital in 3 days!
Still none the wiser on the results of the scan because the computer wasn't working when I saw the consultant today!

I want to say a big thank you to everyone for all their phone calls, messages and emails wishing me well--I will let you all know what the outcome is as soon as I know.
Ive got to go for some more tests soon, so will know more after Ive had them done as well.

It was a beautiful morning today, the sun was shining brightly as we drove back from Hereford hospital after having my scan.
We stopped of at Queenswood to have a stroll among the beautiful trees.
The colours were just amazing, golds and reds mixed with the orange and yellows everywhere we looked.
Ive got loads of photos -to add to the 700 we took in Scotland-as inspiration for some new paintings-when I get a minute!

Dec 13th class -Mellow Moods

The Dec 13th Class is going to be Mellow Moods. I am waiting to hear off Oliver and his Grandad if this date is any good for them-if it is then that means that there is no places left for this class.
If they cant make it then there will be room for 2 people.
The painting will just about be dry in time for Christmas with a bit of luck!

Class of Nov 8th -Stormy Skies

We had a lovely time in class today-there were only 4 of us so it was quite cosy!
Bev on the left of the photo was doing her 3rd painting while Chris and Pauline have been lots of time before!

It was amazing to see just how different each painting was created-as you can see from the photos-right from the start when they did their skies, everyone interpreted what I had shown them differently to each other
.Chris put a volcano in his painting-it doesnt show up to well on the photo but looks great in real life! (By the way Pauline and Chris-let us know what your night out was like! :) )

As usual there were some nerves about using the knife to do the waves-Bev amazed us all by using it as if she had used one for years-when in fact she had only used it once before!
Chris is quite easy on when using it and Pauline is still a bit nervous of it, but quickly got into it!
Everyone is different and some people find things easier than others to do-that is just human nature-if we were all the same it would be a boring old world!

We had lots of laughs as usual throughout the day over different things, and they will all be meeting up again in Dec for the Mellow Moods painting.

Craft Market Nov 6th

We had 3 stalls on yesterdays craft market so we were able to spread the paintings out a little more than usual!
People are defiantly starting to think about Christmas now, and the encaustic art kits that I make up are proving popular!
Its so hard to get any encaustic supplies in the shops that everyone comes back to me for all thier top up waxes and card etc.
Since I found a new supplier of all the encaustic stuff I have been able to keep the prices well below the internet prices!

I have had several phone calls this week for gift vouchers-all from daughters of students who have been to me before!
It would seem that the students themselves have suggested it to family and friends when asked what they would like for a present!

There are 3 more craft markets before Christmas--the next one is a very big event-The Medieval Fair in town. Its a 3 day event with lots going on in the castle for all the family.
The craft fair will be taking place in the college on the Castle Square on just 2 days Saturday 29th Nov and Sunday 30th-there will be all manner of things there from Christmas cards to hand knitted cardies!
Then we are on the normal craft market on Castle Square on Thursday 4th Dec and Sunday 14th Dec.

Droitwich Art Society

We had a lovely evening last night at Droitwich Art Society. There was a good crowd at the hall which had fantastic lighting for me to paint by!
As usual with the art societies there were lots of interesting questions all night and almost everyone was taking notes.
I expect to see some of them in the future in classes and several of them were interested in having me to do demos at various other groups.
I only managed to get a photograph of Keith with his painting of Summer Day he won in the raffle, I was kept so busy afterwards answering questions, the winner of the other painting Winter Wonderland had gone home before me getting a photo of the painting or the winner herself!

I have got to find time to look up my dates for next year--Wellsbourne Art Society have asked me to return for the 3rd time in March next year!
The members who attended the Birch Tree class earlier this year have taken their paintings along to the meeting and everyone was well impressed with them!
As usual we will make a few days of it as we really love the area-maybe we will incorporate it into our wedding anniversary/my birthday and stay in the lovely posh hotel we came across last time we were there!
