Bills Garden Now

We had a lovely afternoon in Hereford today. Bill had some Wyevale Garden Centre gift vouchers left over from his birthday and hes been hankering for a giant rhubarb plant for the garden for ages. He filled in the small pond with compost a while ago when he was doing the second level of the garden, this has created the perfect environment for this plant. It likes a boggy setting.
The leaves can grow up to 10 feet across, so it will be interesting to see how it does here!
I also got a beautiful black and white striped reed that will grow in the same place.
On the way out we spotted some beautiful clay pots with Alpine plants growing out of them.
The pots were beautifully aged with moss and algae growing on them--couldn't resist getting 3 -especially as they were reduced!
The 2 tall ones will sit on the steps and the one in the round bowl will look lovely on the table on the bottom level.
We had bought some plants at the craft fair yesterday, I wanted something that would compliment the beautiful blue flowering plant (no idea what its called) and found a lovely pink flower with dark red foliage-it looks lovely against the light gravel.
We have also bought some fun items like the digging dog statue and the happy face planter from the boot sales. Its taken a while but its all been worth it.
We were looking forward to having a BBQ this weekend but the weather forcast is not promising, so we will have to see what happens!

Craft Market

It was beautiful weather today for the book and craft fair.
There were loads of people around the market square.
We met some interesting people again-as we always do when we are on the craft markets.
It was a lovely atmosphere in the square-there was a medieval busker playing a variety of instuments amoung other things. We also met up with some of the other people who will be with us in the craft marquee at the Shobdon Food and Drink Festival later this month.
Its a lovely venue-always friendly and a good laugh.Lets hope for good weather! Although its only a few miles from home we might take the caravan as they have some great live bands there on the Saturday night playing 60's music. If the forcast is ok we will stop over and enjoy the atmosphere there with some wine and music!

Bills Garden--coming along nicely!!!

We went off yesterday to have a look for some bits and pieces to finish off the garden.
He had lots of vouchers for his birthday so he has put them to good use--the beautiful Mexican plants are something we have looked at and admired for a long time-the trunks are plaited together and then they have grown and matured in these lovely pots.
Its very nearly finished now, both levels have been covered with a special membrane and some lovely Cotswold stone put down, along with the lovely stone circle that came from our dear friends Jan and John .
Bill has planted his beautiful magnolia tree that he had for his birthday, and is now just waiting to get the summer house emptied of the garage shelves on freecycle so he cant get a giant plant he has spotted on the local market--it looks like a giant rhubarb plant, grows very big and likes a moist soil.
Ideal for the spot next to the summer house next to the wildlife pond that leaks a little constantly.
We had some lovely planters this morning off freecycle-terracotta ones, they will look lovely planted up with some trailing strawberries along the wall onto the 2nd level of the garden.
I expect we will end up with lots of plants from the boot sale tomorrow!

These are the ferbies that were the source of much amusment on Saturday.
The plants are what both Sharleen and Jack had cuttings off on Saturday. They had never seen anything like the spiders leg one before!
If anyone knows the real name of the 'spider legs 'plant please let me know!!!
